As traffic dwindles somewhat on the site (due in part to the lack of new games) the google Ad dollars have inevitably dropped as well. Consequently, the Ads are no longer covering my hosting costs (flash eats a lot of resources so my plan is a bit more expensive than your average one). And Hosting with a 3rd party game portal isn’t feasible b/c of the amount of files involved unfortunately.

I had no problem keeping “Something Amiss” around as long as it supported itself, but I’m faced with the dilemma now of how to pay for hosting. To that end, I’m trying out some micro-payment sites (Flattr, Kachingle) and offering my ebook on the Kindle. But I also wanted to throw out the question to the players out there. Any suggestions on how to pay the hosting costs? Would you be willing to shell out a few bucks for future chapters? I’d hate to go that route, so maybe someone can help me come up with another creative idea.

I just submitted an eVersion of “Something Amiss” to Amazon, so if you have a Kindle you should be able to soon download it on the device. It only costs $1 and is a good way to support an indie developer. (Also, if I sell enough I may be encouraged to create a chapter 4.)

Something Amiss recently reached the milestone of 1,000,000 visits. Looking at the map below you can see that players came from all over the globe! (With a curious concentration in Hungary!) It’s still incredible to me how an indie developer such as myself can reach a worldwide audience without the help of corporate marketing machines. Thanks so much to all the fans out there. You’re the reason I make games!

What’s next?

For the past 6 years I’ve been writing a new story. I’m currently engaged in the endless process of rewriting – trimming the fat, and shaping it into a respectable polished draft. Only very recently, have I seen the light at the end of this tunnel. And soon I’m going to try my luck with literary agents. I thought I’d chronicle my attempts in this blog.

Will I make the story into a game? Not sure yet. One step at a time. But creative journeys are always surprising, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this one takes me.
